Do you own a studio?

Yes, I do. But that's not the end of the story. I mainly am an independent engineer; which are common in NY, LA and Nashville. This works to your advantage because I am not trying to sell you studio time only at my studio that may not suit your needs. (My studio "Welcome To 1979" is an all analog studio with a narrow niche) Instead, we can pick a studio that is in your price range and has the equipment and vibe that you like...or choose to work outside the studio setting altogether, which I do a lot of.  (See "House Calls" below)

How much does it cost to record a CD?

Well, that's like asking how much cars cost. The cost varies depending on what you need from your car. Do you want a car that will only get you from point A to point B? Do you want it to impress your girlfriend? A supermodel? Then you're looking at differently priced cars. (I hope!) Take a minute to figure out what you want to accomplish with your CD, and what you have to work with, financially speaking, and I'll do my best to come up with a plan that will work for you.

I don't live in Nashville, can we still work together?

Yes, we can. I prefer to work in Nashville, because I have been engineering here for thirteen years (full time) and have good relationships with several studio owners in town. However; I also work in Cleveland, Atlanta, Pensacola and Minneapolis on a regular basis. I can usually find a good studio in or near any city, and know which questions to ask to find out if the studio will work for your needs. I also have enough equipment to do overdubs almost anywhere. We can work together, here or where you live.

So What's This "House Call" Thing all about?

Oooh- This is fun stuff!  A lot of artists feel going into a studio is a bit
overkill, and enjoy the comforts of their own home.  So I bring my
collection of vintage microphones and other high end recording equipment to
you!  This also works great for full bands too- I typically will record the
basic tracks at a studio, then do things like vocals, background vocals,
solos, etc. at one of the band member's house, or at a cabin in the woods.
It's always something vibey and affordable.  Cool, huh?
Check out my studio and video pages for more info.

I've never recorded before, can you help me with all the details?

Yes. I am more than willing to take the time to answer questions, discuss concerns and help to plan out the recording process to fit your specific needs.

The last time I recorded; I feel that I spent too much time and money in some guy's basement, and I didn't like the results. How do I make sure that doesn't happen again?

Well, you get what you pay for. I cost a little more than those guys, but you will never hear "no" in the studio with me. I show you studios that are well equipped to handle any size session, and that are properly maintained with a good staff. This all helps to insure that if you want to do something, technology will set us free, not hold us back. I also have a demo CD with several songs on it, each from a different band on a different budget. This helps you hear the differences between spending two days or two weeks on your CD. I also encourage people to speak up when we are working- it's your hard earned money- get what you want out of it!!

I am currently recording my own band- and some things just aren't working out too well.

Can you help?

Yes, I can! I have always been doing more and more work with artists that record their own material at home. I do everything from renting mics and other gear  to mixing and mastering. I can transfer from almost any format, send files back and forth via FTP and really strive to  keep it affordable.  People even send my raw tracks to run to analog tape and through  my gear to get the sound of high end equipment (and techniques) without spending a ton.  Recording and album is tough, and you want it to be the best it can be- we can talk about what your recording setup and experience is and find ways to improve on how you're doing things too. I have many examples of what I've done for other people's projects, send me an email and I'll send you a CD.

What are your rates?

The total rate will vary depending upon where you want to work, etc, etc. Typically, I work on a day rate basis, and encourage the studios I use to do the same - which I feel is most fair for everyone involved. Plus, it really helps to keep everyone's eyes on the ball and not on the clock. Please call or write to discuss your project, and together we can work out a budget estimate that will fit your needs.

How long is a "day"?

On most days I spend at least 12 hours behind the console, and I don't charge for setup time, backups or teardowns. No hidden charges here folks.

So I record an album with you...then what??

I can hook you up with great companies to help you out with mastering, artwork, press, college radio promotion, and I can even help you get signed up with cd sales/spins tracking compaines. So don't re-invent the wheel...I've got you covered.

Can you get me a record deal?

No

Are you really as cool as everyone says?

Yes. But don't take my word for it. Here's what some of my clients have to say about how cool I am.

So, who have you worked with?
