In a similar vein to "Kettle River" a majority of Eliza Blue¹s latest was
recorded close to nature (this time on Wisconsin's Turtle Lake, "in cabins,
basements and backyards").
And the results aren't that far off, either: "Screen Doors & Back Doors"
Blue¹s first full-length release, is a transcendent composition worthy of
your most soul-searching moments.
With a fluctuating voice like Duluth¹s cherished Leane Perius, and a sound
that evokes the most sepia-toned daydreams of the Dust Bowl (think
"Carnivale"), Blue stands out from a majority of the seemingly millions of
singer/songwriters making music these days.
Especially rewarding are the upbeat "O My Lord" the back-porch album closer
"Lost Springs" and the unavoidable "Freight Train" which puts her (please
excuse the horrible punS) on par with Duluth's prolific renegade-folk
master, Charlie Parr.
Best of all, Eliza "I (Heart) Trees" Blue decided to make her record sleeve
using only 100 percent post-consumer recycled paper. Like the
Earth-conscious Cloud Cult, great music comes in great packaging.
